Elspeth Attwooll was first elected for the Liberal Democrats to the European Parliament in 1999. In June 2004, Elspeth was re-elected and the Liberal Democrats saw their share of the vote rise in the European Elections across Scotland. Labour, the SNP and Tories all saw their vote share fall.

As Elspeth is not standing again in the election on Thursday, she would just like to thank everyone she has met or who has contacted her in the course of the last ten years. She is very grateful for the extent to which these contributions have helped her with her work in the European Parliament.

EU fisheries policy needs to be radically decentralised

The European Parliament adopted a report today by Elspeth Attwooll which advocates a complete recast of the institutional governance of the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), in particular by reinforcing the role of the Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) established in 2004. This report comes at a time when the European Commission has announced a wide consultation in order to reform "Blue Europe" in view of 2013.

Today saw Liberals and Democrats from all over Europe come together to celebrate the first ever pan-European Civil Liberties Day. MEP urges caution over increasing exposure to electromagnetic fields

The European Parliament today backed a report that calls on the European Commission to review safe levels of exposure to electromagnetic fields in order to bring them in line with the huge increase in use of mobile phones, wireless internet and satellite navigation systems in the decade since the safe levels were last decided.
